SF Camerawork presents a pop-up series of lens-based projects by artists creatively responding to our current state of quarantine, curated by artist, curator and SFC member Victoria Mara Heilweil. Today’s post features artist Ron Moultrie Saunders.
Victoria Mara Heilweil: Ron Moultrie Saunders interest in the natural world stems from his background as a landscape architect. Ron usually creates photograms of plant life, but since he does not have access to his darkroom currently, he has needed to re-imagine his art practice in order to make new work during the quarantine. The shelter in place order has provided Ron with time to experiment with his iPhone camera, and shift his process away from analog to a tech tool. I have enjoyed seeing his luscious images that investigate what is revealed in extreme closeups of backlit plants.
Ron Moultrie Saunders is an artist, educator and co-founder of Three Point Nine Art Collective based in San Francisco. Ron is a SFC member, auction donor and San Francisco Individual Artist Grant Awardee. His permanent public artwork is installed at the Bayview Linda Brooks-Burton Branch Library, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Headquarters.
