Quarantine Picture Show: Victoria Mara Heilweil

April 17, 2020

SF Camerawork presents a pop-up series of lens-based projects by artists creatively responding to our current state of quarantine, curated by artist, curator and SFC member Victoria Mara Heilweil. Today’s post features Victoria’s own work.

Victoria Mara Heilweil: I am ending my two week curatorial takeover of SF Camerawork’s IG with my own photographic artwork.  As with many of the artists I have shown here, I began a new project on the first day of quarantine. I needed to make pictures, have a routine, and desired to seek out loveliness on my daily walks.  It seemed important to find beauty, we certainly need more of that now. Each morning I post my photos on Instagram, simply titled by the day. It is my gift to the larger community.

Victoria Mara Heilweil is a San Francisco based artist, curator and educator.   Her images are inspired by the marks and routines of daily life; recording a fleeting moment, a spontaneous formation.  Victoria’s artwork celebrates the quiet and the ordinary - a humble state of being and one that is very human. You can view more of Victoria Mara Heilweil’s artwork @victoriamaraheilweil, or on her website, www.victoriaheilweil.com.
