Quarantine Picture Show: Alice Shaw

April 14, 2020

SF Camerawork presents a pop-up series of lens-based projects by artists creatively responding to our current state of quarantine, curated by artist, curator and SFC member Victoria Mara Heilweil. Today’s post features artist Alice Shaw.

Victoria Mara Heilweil: I love the simplicity of Alice Shaw’s “Stuck in the House” pictures.  I imagine that being home with her young son makes it more challenging to work, which makes me appreciate the poetic images of her day to day life during quarantine that she is inspired to create.

Alice Shaw is an artist and educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was trained as a photographer but often incorporates other media into her practice. Alice is an Artadia Grant Awardee and her work is included in the collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Her permanent large-scale public artwork, “No Other Lands Their Glory Know” is installed at The San Francisco International Airport.  Alice is represented by Gallery 16 in San Francisco, and is a SFC member and auction donor. You can view more of Alice Shaw’s artwork @aliceshawphoto, or on her website, www.aliceshawphoto.com.
