SF Camerawork presents a pop-up series of lens-based projects by artists creatively responding to our current state of quarantine, curated by artist, curator and SFC member Victoria Mara Heilweil. Today’s post features artist Dan Herrera.
Victoria Mara Heilweil: I’d like to end the week with a bit of humor. Dan Herrera has been posting Quarantine Pro-Tips that made me laugh out loud. While parenting a young child, and trying to migrate six college courses online, Dan has not had time for his alternative process photographic artwork. Instagram had already been a platform for both promoting Dan’s artwork and a personal blog. With these short videos, he can respond to both his moments of fear and anxiety, and the pure joy of sheltering with his family, in a lighthearted manner.
Dan Herrera is a photographer based in Sacramento, California and a member of SFC. Dan uses an elaborate means of image capture, composition, and output that merges 19th century printing techniques with contemporary photographic production. Dan has exhibited his artwork in New York, Los Angeles, and numerous Bay Area venues, and currently teaches photography at San Jose State University and California State University of Sacramento.
