On September 08, 1994 USAir Flight 427 suffered a mechanical failure during its final descent into Pittsburgh. The plane banked and then dove nose first into a hillside in Hopewell, Pennsylvania. All 132 people on board died including Davis' father, Tim Davis. The flight crashed only 30 minutes away from their family home. Davis was two years old and has no memories of the crash or his father. When Davis came home from college one year, his mother shared boxes with him that contained newspapers from the time of the crash, family photos, sympathy cards, his father’s yearbooks, personal effects, and more. From these he started to piece together who his father was and the event that took his life. Constellations is a meditation on the death of Davis' father and his time during a period of delayed grief and discovery. Incorporating made photographs, newspaper clippings, video stills, family photos, yearbook spreads, and personal writing, Davis explores the way loss and tragedy exist both physically and psychologically 25 years on.
