Andrea Chung’s cyanotype works capture underwater scenes of lionfish, offering an allegory for colonization, as the non-native species have reshaped the environment of Caribbean waters by destroying the ecosystems according to their own needs. Furthermore, the cyanotype process is important for this series because of its association with prints from nature but also because of its association with the quintessential planning document, the blueprint, which places it at the intersection of ideas that Chung explores in photography and its relationship with the Caribbean and material processes.
