To say that Ken is a landscape photographer does not even begin to describe how his photography has evolved. He considers composition to be more important than subject matter. He often finds that he would rather photograph a formation of rocks that others might consider mundane, than to fly off to some iconic place where thousands of photographers have literally taken the same shots.

A good example of this would be this image, Alabama Hills 4. Ken got excited to notice the juxtaposition of wispy dried plants up against an ageless rock formation. That these two elements seemed to dance well together is what caused Ken to click the shutter and capture this image.

About the Artist:
Ken Hoffman

Ken's first photography workshop was in the mid 1970's with David Cavagnaro, where in a Sierra meadow, he crawled around on his belly photographing insects and seed pods.

Then, after a long career in commercial real estate he retired and took his first film developing and printing class from Sean McFarland in 2009. It was at that point that he knew that photography would be an important part of his life. He continued with workshops with such photographic legends as John Sexton, Alan Ross, Michael Gordon and Mark Citret.

He has had solo exhibits in New Mexico at the Farmington Museum and Plaza Galeria, Santa Fe.
