FORECAST2021 Artist Talk with Christian K. Lee

On Tuesday, April 5th SF Camerawork hosted an artist talk with FORECAST 2021 artist Christian K. Lee, who spoke about his project Armed Doesn’t Mean Dangerous. Lee’s work examines the complicated relationship between African Americans and the 2nd Amendment, while presenting a counter argument to stereotypes of black gun owners. He depicts his subjects, who legally own firearms, with dignity and sensitivity.
CHRISTIAN K. LEE
Christian K. Lee is a documentary photographer born in Chicago, IL. His background as a photojournalist drives his desire to utilize Art as an investigative tool. He believes that it can foster understanding where words fail.
His work has been honored by the Sony World Photography Awards, Critical Mass Top 50, Arnold Newman Prize, Royal Photographic Society, and Head On Photo Festival. His work has been commissioned and or licensed by Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, The Guardian, and National Geographic.
Lee’s goal is to create Art with the purpose of reflecting the world in which he currently lives. His work from the exhibition can be viewed here, and more can be viewed on his website at christianklee.com.
