On June 23rd, SF Camerawork hosted a virtual studio visit with Bay Area artist Jamil Hellu, whose work was exhibited at SF Camerawork right before lockdown in 2020.  Navigating from a personal lens, his practice weaves together still and moving imagery to amplify queer representation and challenge the social construct of masculinity. Jamil spoke from his studio about how his on-going and new projects have been informed by the pandemic during this past year. This intimate visit was a special opportunity for guests to engage directly with Jamil and to further gain insights into strategies for sustaining an enduring art practice.
