Polaroid Transfers and Chemical Manipulations Workshop with Sakara Birdsong
CLASS DESCRIPTION
SF Camerawork is thrilled to partner with Oakland-based artist Sakara Birdsong. This 5 session hands-on workshop will explore the beauty and ruination found in the manipulation of Polaroids. Using household chemicals, students will learn how to develop, transfer, and manipulate Polaroid film. Class will meet weekly via zoom.
The 5 week workshop series will focus on:
• Exploring the boundaries of manipulating polaroids
• Learning to confidently transfer polaroids
• Understanding the basics of chemical manipulation
• Scanning and storing the results of chemical, manipulations, and transfers
• Gaining insight into experimental film photography
MATERIALS
(materials not provided)
• Polaroid camera and film (any polaroid type will work)
• Razor/box cutter/scissors (any will work)
• Small/medium-sized paint brushes
• 2 Trays for polaroid transfers/chemical manipulation
• Gloves
• Watercolor paper no larger than 8 x 10 and clear glass plates
• Household chemicals / acidic liquids
(examples: bleach, apple cider vinegar, mouth wash, and rubbing alcohol)

Enrollment is on a first come basis, space is limited! Enrollment is immediate upon receipt of tuition payment in full, there is no refund/cancellation period. Should you need to cancel, SFC will attempt to fill spaces from the waitlist if possible, in which case a refund will be negotiated. Should SFC or the instructor cancel the workshop, all fees will be 100% refunded.

Sakara Birdsong (b. 1991; California) is a self-taught analog artist, focusing on medium format and Polaroid film photography. She creates work that explores surrealism, portraiture that focuses on intimacy and acceptance of self, and pushing the boundaries of film.
