StreetFoto San Francisco
Exhibition Dates: June 4 - June 8, 2018
Evening Reception: Thursday, June 6, 2018, 5:30 - 7:30 PM
SF Camerawork is excited to host Two Way Street: An exhibition of diptychs by Women in Street, a pop-up exhibition part of StreetFoto San Francisco. This exhibition draws upon the endless well of talent in Women in Street (WiS), a collaboration of female street photographers from around the world. For their first-ever print exhibition, the group’s co-founders Casey Meshbesher and Julia Coddington have curated a diverse selection of diptychs made from members’ candid public photos.
Women in Street (WiS) is a multi-platform social media collaborative, a global network established in 2016, which provides a blogzine and several social media platforms. It provides a community forum, and showcases the work of emerging talent and seasoned artists. WiS functions somewhat as a “collective,” where collaborators come and go, these “members” may be short or long term contributors, handling a special project, curating, or contributing guest material for the blog.
WiS is on Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, and publishes the blogzine Her Side of the Street. The publication provides a platform to showcase contemporary artists, featuring interviews with established artists, as well as exposure opportunities for emerging photographers. The publication’s monthly galleries also celebrate women curators, photo editors, and photographers who regularly guest curate exhibitions published on the blog.
