SFC’s Fine Print Program offers collectors the opportunity to acquire exceptional photographs by established and emerging artists with longstanding connections to SFC.

Built over decades, the program brings together a distinctive selection of works by nationally and internationally recognized artists alongside important voices in Bay Area photography. Many are limited editions, with some representing the final print available from an edition.

Fine Prints are offered exclusively through SF Camerawork, providing a unique opportunity to build or expand a photography collection while directly supporting SFC’s exhibitions and artist programs.

Phillip Maisel explores the intersection of photography, sculpture, and architecture through carefully constructed still lifes. Arranging everyday objects in temporary compositions, he photographs subtle changes in their placement, creating layered studies of space, perception, and transformation. Desert Hot Springs (4778) reflects his interest in the relationship between objects, images, and the ways we interpret visual information.

Phillip Maisel (b.1981, Chicago) received his MFA from California College of the Arts. In 2015, his work was featured in curator Charlotte Cotton’s latest book Photography Is Magic, a critical publication of contemporary photographic practices. While rooted in language of photography, Maisel’s practice traverses sculpture, collage, and installation. Never fully resigning itself to a single medium, each piece meditates upon perception, while drawing on the framework of architecture and design. Maisel selects objects and meticulously arranges them into a temporary still life. In the controlled environment of the studio, Maisel photographs the tableau and makes subtle adjustments between each frame by repositioning, introducing, or extracting elements; he captures each intervention sequentially before finally dismantling the structures.
