In Ghostpile, Lukas Felzmann explores the relationship between human activity and the natural landscape, examining how traces of intervention shape our perception of place. Pyramid, Sacramento Valley reflects his interest in the ways landscapes are altered, organized, and transformed over time.
A Swiss-born, California-based artist and educator, Felzmann works across photography, sculpture, and installation. His practice investigates environmental change, natural systems, and humanity's attempts to understand and control the natural world.
Lukas Felzmann is an artist and educator. He was born and grew up in Zürich, Switzerland but has been living and working in San Francisco since 1981. His work and installations contain sculptural aspects although the base of all works is photographic. Current themes include our relationship to the landscape, and how we internalize and attempt to control the natural (Waters in Between). Further themes are an investigations into the workings of systems, how there might be control without hierarchy (Swarm), and the degradation of the environment through plastic and other materials (Gull Juju). Lukas Felzmann’s work has been exhibited internationally and four monographs have been published on it. He teaches photography at Stanford University in California.
