Welcome to SF Camerawork’s 2016 Benefit Auction catalog. We hope you will be as pleased as we are about a new catalog design that provides improved viewing of the fabulous selection of vintage and contemporary photography we have on offer this year. Our intention is to create an easier read for our collectors as well as to best represent the artwork so generously donated by our supportive community of artists, galleries, and collectors.
Our annual auction is a tradition dating back to the late 1970s. Many collectors acquired their first photograph at a Camerawork auction, many artists found new collectors through the Auction, and countless exhibitions and programs were made possible through the funds raised by the sale. We hope you will participate this year by adding new artwork(s) to your collection; in doing so you are directly supporting our work to promote and foster creative photography in the Bay Area.
As a new element of the Auction program, we are honored to have Sandra S. Phillips, SFMOMA Curator Emeritus, leading us through a selection of her favorite photographs at the Preview Reception on Thursday, October 27th.
We also extend our deepest appreciation to Rick Wester, who will again donate his expertise as an auctioneer with years of experience in the field of photography towards an exciting and successful event.
